It was a beautiful sunny day on April 21st when our group of YouthStorm staff, interns, and youth group approached park to participate in the LMCC cleanup in partnership with National Global Youth Service Day. As we awaited our assignment, I gazed around and was greatly encouraged to see groups representing many aspects of our great city of Lawrence. From students, to semi-professional sports players, to helpful neighborhood people, there were many willing hearts and hands to pitch in and clean up the city. After receiving our assigned location, gloves, and tools, we set off to restore order and beauty to a designated street. Other groups as well were assigned certain neighborhoods, with the intention of serving through community cleanup. As the hot spring sun rested on our shoulders, we raked, swept, picked up trash, and removed tree limbs. Part way through our work, the sponsors of this endeavor provided us with much welcomed bottles of fresh cold water. As our commitment of time eventually drew to a close, we were impressed by a noticeable difference throughout the city. Through a number of willing and enthusiastic people, the city of Lawrence was touched and persevered to a position ready for eager families and kids to fill its streets again this summer!
